she ran into the middle of the street, opening her arms to the swirling skies and wild eddies of wind and stinging rain. she wanted to scream, wanted to collapse into the cold pavement until her throat burned red and raw and she was sobbing, crying until her body wilted and was lost in the darkness and boarded houses and empty roads. she had never been so keenly aware of being alone, of possibilities lost and gone, and she cried for what could have been. why? she screamed. why, why, why? she saw the love, the kisses, the hot touches and blushes, and the rain fell down and she buried her head in her wet hands and let herself crumple.
